Review Avengers versus X-Men 5
Essentially, the X-Men and the Avengers throw down on the Blue Area of the Moon as the Phoenix approaches. Iron Man hits the Phoenix with a high tech device that is supposed to destroy the Phoenix. Only it doesn't work, shocker. The Phoenix possesses 5 X-men at the same time, Cyclops, Magik, White Queen, Namor, and Colossus. Apparently, on another world where demons cast a spell to halt evolution, a Phoenix messiah appeared, and so did 5 lights. Together they destroyed the supposedly unbreakable spell. But unfortunately, one of Hope's original 5 lights died, so the Phoenix made 5 X-Men into 5 lights. Check out Uncanny X-Men 13 for an explanation on the 5 lights. Well, in the first round, the Avengers mopped up the floor with the X-Men, including X-Men who definitely had the power to take down some Avengers who are merely human. In this round, with the Phoenix on their side, the X-Men instantly put down the Avengers. All of this is coming at a time when Rogue herself takes down a whole group of Avengers.
So basically, the Phoenix is here to jump start evolution and undo Wanda's spell. All the powerful psychics and mystics sense its arrival and faint, from Xavier and Legion to the Scarlet Witch and Iron Fist.
