Patrik Ian Polk's New Movie the Skinny

The Skinny The Skinny is the latest film by Patrik Ian Polk, the creator of Noah’s arc. Mr. Polk continues his stories about love and life of gay black men. The interesting thing about Mr. Polk’s work is that black gay characters were almost entirely unseen in media portrayals of gay men. The typical media portrayal of gay men is typically that of a white male, and gays of other groups are usually severely underrepresented.

So Polk, a man who worked on a number of other productions, came into his own by writing about gay black men (Polk is one himself). The importance of this is that Polk’s breaking ground helps open the doors for other types of people who aren’t white or straight in Hollywood. There had historically been few opportunities in Hollywood for people who weren’t the right sexuality, especially if they weren’t the right color. Polk’s projects help address this indirectly by giving gay men of color a foot in the door, as once you get recognized for work it becomes easier to get additional work.
