White Fraternity Men at Cornell Allegedly Shout Trayvon and Throw Bottles at Black Women

The last few years fraternities at Cornell certainly have gotten a lot of bad press. Its to the point where one wonders if the University is even going to keep fraternities around. Yet another fraternity incident makes the news at Cornell. The last major one lead to the death of a student, George Desdunes. Now a racial incident has happened at another frat house. As Jeff Stein from the Cornell Daily Sun reports:

"Allegedly taunting them with references to Trayvon Martin, a group of people on the roof of the Sigma Pi fraternity house reportedly threw bottles and other objects at black students who were walking by the house early Sunday morning, according to several accounts. Sigma Pi President Zach Smith ’13 said in an email Sunday afternoon that the fraternity has “figured out who the perpetrator was, and will turn his name over to police.” The individual identified was not a brother of the fraternity, he said. Cornell Chief of Police Kathy Zoner confirmed that people were “reportedly making racial references” and throwing bottles from the roof of Sigma Pi. She added that she could not disclose more information because the investigation, which is being led by Ithaca Police, is ongoing."

The alleged stupidity of the frat fools involved is astonishing. In an era when many people have digital cameras and when smartphones can act as digital cameras, they do something like this? In an era where news spreads via twitter, they behave so appallingly. With this amount of national pressure, the university and the police will find the students responsible. Depending on the results of the investigation, this will likely be yet another frat house closed at Cornell. There is something seriously wrong with the frat culture at Cornell to have some of the incidents that they've had for the past few years. It is being addressed, however, as each major incident has lead to a frat closing. The young people in this incident, by throwing bottles at someone, could have seriously hurt someone. That's assault, in addition to possible hate crimes. If convicted of assault that's the end of them at the university. On top of that, they were just so stupid if stupidity was a crime, they'd be convicted of that as well.
