Update on Legal Action Against Occupy's Finance Working Group

After first investigating Sean McKeown's report of legal action against Occupy Wall Street’s accounting firm, I spoke to the two individuals, Cynthia and Trish, who were named as initiating said legal action. Cynthia Price denied having initiating legal action. Trish, on the other hand, gave an update on the matter. On April 7th, 2012 an assembled GA met on how to proceed on concerns that Occupy’s Finance/Accounting group had committed major fraud. Trish, a member of the NYC GA council, had presented a proposal to the GA that they seek legal counsel. The GA consensed on this matter. Unfortunately, Occupy’s General Assembly had been defacto disbanded when the facilitation team and minutes team voted to quit. However, this assembled GA had a facilitator, Hermes. So as previously noted, with numerous occupiers who have in the past expressed concern over the lack of transparency in occupy, a group of occupiers decided on legal action.

But whether the general assembly is legit by occupy wall street’s standards is really irrelevant in the eyes of the law. For a lawsuit to happen, there need to two things. The law needs to have been broken, and there need to be damages. So if these two things are there, then any one who was a party to occupy can potentially sue. The legal counsel that has been retained is not limited to New York, there are lawyers around the nation that are working on this, according to Trish. Additional updates as this story folds will be posted.
